the sun in my bones

i went to the park and took some self portraits the other day in the warm sun. my hair is longer now than it has ever been before and i think it's finally time to cut it.

the jumper and black top im wearing were a present from wildfox couture and the leotard from black milk

also, the first three photos in this set have been edited with my new preset lovestruck & the last photo in this set edited with wild bird.

  15. I love these! And I love the glow coming from the sun from behind. I have tried this technique a few times but haven't had any luck. The subject's face is too dark. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    1. thank you! i always expose so my subjects face is the 'centre' of the image in terms of lighting and focus.. so just overexpose your pictures a little bit. it's okay if the sky comes out white in the photos, you can't really shoot it any other way when you're using back-light! otherwise, you could use a reflector as well :)

  16. do you use a remote/shutter release, or do you run back and forth on self timer? or did dan take these photos?
also! (assuming dan didn't take these) did you have your camera mounted on a tripod? oh! and how far away from the camera are you? and what lens did you use? 85mm? (i hope you don't mind a bajillion questions!) i'm always very curious about your/and other photographers, positioning/angles/distance between the model and you! and how that translates to the final shot! thanks julia :) i adore your work xxx

    1. i used to run back and forth with the self timer but i finally bought myself a wireless trigger which i was using here. yep, the camera was on a tripod, set to my height for portraits and i was using my 35mm lens so i was standing anywhere between 1 - 3 metres away from the camera :)
